Delhi police arrest SIMI's Qureshi for 2008 Gujarat blasts

TIL Desk/National/New Delhi/ Abdul Subhan Qureshi, alias Touqeer – the man behind 2008 Gujarat serial blast – has been arrested by security forces following a brief encounter.  A member of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) – Indian Mujahideen (IM), Qureshi has been on India’s most wanted terrorists list for a long time.

Qureshi has been accused of being a top commander of the banned terror outfit Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), who later with the help of other terrorists launched the Indian Mujahedeen (IM). He is also allegedly involved in various terror-related cases being probed by Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra police forces.

A top bomb maker of the world, Qureshi has been nicknamed as India’s Osama bin Laden. He’s also suspected to be behind the 2006 Mumbai train bombings. The Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested Qureshi following a brief exchange of fire. Qureshi is allegedly wanted by the NIA in a case which was initially registered by the Kerala Police in Kottayam in 2008 and later in 2010 transferred to the agency for further investigation which registered an FIR.
