Unnao rape case: BJP finally expels its MLA Kuldeep Sengar

TIL Desk/National/New Delhi/ Over a year after he was jailed for raping a minor girl, BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar has finally been expelled from the party. Too little, too late, considering that the MLA has been threatening the family from jail and is being held responsible for orchestrating the accident that left the rape victim and her lawyer critically injured and her aunts dead.

The BJP has been facing the heat in Parliament with MPs across parties condemning the incident and lambasting the party for not expelling Sengar.  On Tuesday, the BJP in Uttar Pradesh that Sengar had been suspended from the party a while ago after rape allegations had surfaced against him but remained silent on whether he will be expelled from the party.

However, on the UP assembly website though, Sengar is mentioned as a BJP MLA in the list of members as on June 5 and the Assembly records also show him as a member of the Committee of Government Assurances as on 2018. Three police personnel – including two women cops, appointed for the security of Unnao rape survivor — have been suspended.
