TIL Desk Lucknow/ Apollomedics Superspeciality Hospital hosted a press conference to dispel myths about joint replacement surgery. Dr. Sanjai Srivastava, state’s renowned orthopaedic surgeon, who has joined Apollomedics Superspeciality Hospital as the Chairman of Orthopaedics and Joint Replacement Department, presided along with Dr Mayank Somani, MD & CEO, Apollomedics Hospitals, at the conference. The purpose of this conference was to dispel myths and misconceptions regarding joint replacement surgery, especially knee replacement.
Addressing the media, Dr. Mayank Somani said, “It is believed that artificial joint replacement cannot mimic the feel of natural joints. There has been drastic improvement in the materials, designs, and surgical procedures used in joint replacements. Now the knee and hip design gives a natural joint feel as they are almost natural joints.”
“I am happy to inform you that Dr. Sanjai Srivastava has joined us as the Chairman Orthopaedics & Joint Replacement Department. With a professional and academic experience of more than 27 years and 18000 successful ortho and joint replacement surgeries under his name, Dr Sanjai Srivastava is a well-known name in orthopaedics surgery in the state. Serving as a design consultant to many reputed national & international ortho joint manufacturing firms, Dr. Srivastava is an expert in developing customised implants as per patient’s requirement.”
Dr. Sanjai Srivastava, while discussing bone related diseases, said, “There is a perception among people that knee surgery has a very low success rate or that knee surgery should be avoided as much as possible. Whereas the reality is, when it comes to joint replacement surgery, the success rate is 98%. It completely depends upon the quality of the surgery, the prosthesis used, Post op Care and the patient’s rehabilitation process after the surgery.”
“Earlier, people used to get joint & mobility related problems after the age of 50 but today, due to changing lifestyle and food habits, most of the people are suffering from bone weakness, difficulty in walking, back pain, weakness by the age of 30.
