TIL Desk Lucknow/ General Manoj Pande, Chief of Army Staff released ‘A Chronicle of Central Command – SAVDHAAN’, on 09 Feb 2023 at New Delhi. General Pande complimented Central Command for the excellent compilation which weaves together deep research with a creative presentation. The Chronicle documents the proud heritage and defining transitions which have shaped the evolution of Central Command, also known as Surya Command.
Since its raising in May 1963, the operational responsibilities of the command have grown significantly. Today, Surya Command ensures continuous vigil on the Line of Actual Control in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and encompasses an area of responsibility spanning across eight states of the India’s heartland. The command has redefined and aligned itself with the priorities of the Indian Army and maintains the highest standards of operational preparedness at all times. It has been at the forefront of capability enhancement and force modernization. The chronicle highlights the unique status of Central Command in the Indian Army, its role and growing importance over the past 60 years.
As the guardian command and home to largest community of Veterans and Veer Naris, it shoulders important responsibility of promoting their welfare.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt General Yogendra Dimri described the chronicle as a humble tribute to all gallant warriors of Surya command, past and present, who have contributed to the glory of Central Command and its current stature as a deeply revered and professional fighting force.
