TIL Desk Lucknow :👉The repair work of the road subsidence that occurred on 15 December 2024 in front of Punjab National Bank (PNB) located in Vikas Nagar has been completed by the team of Suez India. The 20 feet wide and 27 feet long pit created by this incident had disrupted the traffic in the area, due to which the citizens were facing serious trouble. With the tireless efforts of Suez India and Municipal Corporation, now the traffic on the road will be smooth and people will get relief.
During the road subsidence, two pipes of the main sewer line of 1600 dia were completely damaged. However, the team had to face many complex obstacles before starting the repair work. Underground HT power cables, gas pipelines, optical fiber lines and water pipelines were present under the subsidence site, which was not possible without removing them safely. Suez India coordinated with other departments to shift them. To replace the damaged 1600 dia pipeline in Vikas Nagar, state-of-the-art machinery was used, some of which were special crane machines imported.
Apart from this, diverting 150 MLD water coming from Gudamba, Mahadev, Jankipuram and Aliganj was the biggest challenge. The Suez India team diverted the water by installing 16-17 pumps and secured the repair area.
According to Rajesh Mathpal, Project Director of Suez India, “Initially only two pipelines were seen damaged, but a thorough investigation revealed damage to additional pipelines, the upper part of the pipe was missing. He said that the employees of Suez India worked for two months and completed this work by following all the safety protocols. Since this was a deep work and the soil here was also sandy. Keeping in mind the safety of the employees and to ensure that they could do this work safely, special type of shuttering was used so that there is no scope of any kind of accident during the work. After the completion of this work, the local people will get relief from the waterlogging in the Jankipuram area. Now this sewer line is fully functional. The team of Suez India will make this road passable. The administration is also requested to ban the entry of heavy vehicles in Vikas Nagar. Apart from this, any kind of road digging in Vikas Nagar area should also be banned here.
Since the collapse, the residents of the area are worried about the traffic problem and road safety. After the completion of the work of Suez India, not only will the traffic be easy, but the stability of the underground structures will also increase. This success has also brought forth an example of coordination between the Municipal Corporation and Suez India.
Sewer work was done in Vikas Nagar in 2010-11. This work has been done 30 feet below the ground. Earlier, after the road collapsed here, a complete study was done and it was found that the entire facing (sewer and pipeline) was damaged. It is about 1.8 kilometers long. Due to damage at many places, a lot of difficulties are being faced in repairing it. Jal Nigam has also prepared a project of Rs 21 crore to replace it. Now the work to replace this 1600 dia line is to begin, which is to be completed by Jal Nigam.
This incident in Vikas Nagar has exposed the fragility of urban infrastructure, but the quick and technically competent response has maintained the confidence of the citizens. Now all eyes are on the upcoming project of Jal Nigam, which will provide long-term security to the area.
