River Alaknanda rises above the danger level mark, cloudburst in Chamoli

TIL Desk/National/Chamoli-River Alaknanda rises above the danger level mark after a cloudburst in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand. Heavy rains continue to pound the hilly areas of Uttarakhand. Large tracts of agriculture fields were destroyed in Suva village of the Dharchula area and three bridges linking the village have been washed away.

Heavy Monsoon showers are expected in the month of July and rains are expected to enhance gradually between July 1 and July 3. However, between July 2 and July 3, there are possibilities of heavy to extremely heavy showers over many parts of the state.

These heavy showers may also lead to landslides and flash floods which are likely to affect the ongoing Char Dham Yatra. Hence, people especially pilgrims are advised to take proper caution during these 2 to 3 days. The Thal-Munsyari road has been cut-off and dozens of vehicles remained stranded on both sides. The Yamunotri highway, near Kharadi, has also been damaged leading to traffic being halted.
