TIL Desk Lucknow:
A four-member delegation led by Ms. Anamika Ramesh (IAS), Joint Commissioner of the Municipal Administration Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, inspected the work being undertaken by Suez under the ‘One City, One Operator’ (OCOP) project currently operational in Lucknow. The objective of this exposure visit was to gain an understanding of the city’s integrated sewerage management system and modern operational methodologies.
The program commenced with a presentation by Suez Project Director Rajesh Mathpal, which provided insights into the improvements achieved in sewerage operations in Lucknow, as well as the technological applications and safety standards being implemented. Subsequently, the delegation witnessed a demonstration of mechanized cleaning operations at a sewer network site, where the cleaning process—utilizing ‘Super Sucker’ machines and other specialized equipment—was explained in detail.
The delegation also visited the Gwari Sewage Pumping Station, where they were briefed on the operational systems and network management protocols in place. During the visit, officials noted that such tours facilitate the sharing of experiences among different cities and aid in the adoption of superior urban water management models.
This project stands as a successful exemplar of sewerage management in Lucknow, characterized by the integration of modern technology, robust safety protocols, and enhanced service delivery.
