TIL Desk/National/New Delhi/ Varanasi Commissioner Nitin Gokarn has submitted a preliminary report to Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Rajiv Kumar on over an alleged eve-teasing incident in the Banaras Hindu University and subsequent protests by students.
The report puts the blame on the university administration, saying it did not deal with the victim’s complaint in a sensitive manner, nor handled the situation on time.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik had yesterday constituted a committee headed by the chief secretary to probe the incidents in the university.
“A committee has been constituted under the chief secretary. Necessary action will be taken on the basis of its report. The committee will see as to how the police had behaved and examine other aspects,” he said.
A number of students, including women, and two journalists were injured in a lathi-charge by the police in the university on Saturday night where protests against the alleged eve-teasing incident turned violent.
