TIL Desk Sports/ Antoine Griezmann started Euro 2016 quietly but with every game his star quality has shone. Though Griezmann finished on the losing side in the Euro final but the France forward won the Golden Boot after finishing top scorer with six goals. The 25-year-old failed to shine in Sunday’s final as Portugal claimed a shock 1-0 win over the hosts.
France, who started the game as favourites after a convincing 2-0 win over Germany in the semi-finals, had their chances but failed to surprise a well-organised Portugal team . The speedy striker netted six goals and gave two assists– more than any player at one European Championship since Michel Platini hit nine in France’s 1984-winning campaign on home soil.
“Maybe later I can feel proud, but for now it’s about the group,” Griezman told. “I’m very disappointed for my team-mates. I really wanted to give them this trophy but I couldn’t score. It’s cruel and magnificent at the same time. We’ve lived through some extraordinary moments, and the saddest moments as well. We have to learn. But tonight we gave it our all and we have no regrets,” he added.
