EC Announces Dates for Karnataka Assembly Elections; Voting on May 12 Result on May 15

TIL Desk/National/Bengaluru/ The Election Commission on Tuesday announced the schedule for Karnataka Assembly elections 2018. As per the schedule, the polling will take place on May 12, while the results will be announced on May 15. The term of the 224-member Karnataka Assembly will expire on May 28. The process to file nomination will begin from April 24 and the last date is April 27.

Candidates can withdraw their nominations before April 27. In Karnataka, the electoral battled is between the ruling Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Congress, led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is leaving no stone unturned to retain power as Karnataka is the only big state, besides Punjab, which is now ruled by the grand old party in the country.

The BJP, on the other hand, is trying hard to oust the Siddaramaiah government. BS Yeddyurappa, along with Amit Shah, is leading BJP’s poll campaign in the state. The JD-S, which is the third force in the state, has announced its pre-poll tie-up with the Bahujan Samaj Party.
