TIL Desk/Business/Chandigarh-Power tariff in Punjab was today kept unchanged by the state power regulator, giving a relief to the people of the poll-bound state. The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) did not raise the power tariff for Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).
The regulator slashed tariff rates for industrial consumers for financial year 2016-17. For the industrial users, the rate for small power, medium supply and large supply was slashed by 38 paise, 36 paise and 11 paise respectively. The announcement came as a relief for the people of Punjab which is going to assembly elections next year.
The regulator has also decided to reduce tariff for various industrial categories. This is the second consecutive year that power tariffs were not raised in the state. Last year, after a gap of eight years, no power tariff hike was announced. There will be no change in the tariff for other categories, PSERC Chairman D S Brains said. The PSERC has also determined consolidated revenue surplus for 2016-17 in respect of PSPCL as Rs 165.94 crore.
