TIL Desk/National/ Lucknow/ BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha and former finance minister Yashwant Sinha will join the Aam Aadmi Party’s five-phase ‘padyatra’ against the Modi government in yet another act of defiance against the saffron party. The ‘padyatra’ will commence from Varanasi, Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency, on June 25, which also happens to be the 43rd anniversary of the imposition of Emergency by Indira Gandhi.
The announcement was made by AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in Lucknow. “We will launch a five-phase padyatra starting from Varanasi to expose how the Modi government failed to keep any of its promises. The first phase of the agitation, called Janadhikar Andolan, will end in Ballia on July 8,” Singh said.
“The prices of essential commodities and petrol have sky-rocketed in the four-year tenure of the Modi government. The law and order situation is also not good in Uttar Pradesh,” he added. The padyatra will be conducted in five phases —Varanasi to Ballia (June 25-July 8), Ayodhya to Lucknow (August 28- September 6, Bareilly to Amroha (September 11 to September 18), Lalitpur to Jhansi (September 25 to October 2) and Aligarh and to Agra via Mathura (October 20 to October 26). It was not immediately if AAP national convenor and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal would take part in the padyatra.
