TIL Desk/Business/New Delhi/ The Centre on Wednesday extended the deadline for filing Income Tax returns (ITR) for FY 2018-19 by a month to July 31, 2020, and for linking biometric Aadhaar with PAN till March 31 next year.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) through a notification also extended the time limit by a month till July 31, 2020, for making various investments for claiming deductions under the I-T Act, which includes section 80C (LIC, PPF, NSC etc), 80D (mediclaim), 80G (donations) etc, for 2019-20.
The government had in March through the Taxation and Other Laws (Relaxation of certain Provisions) Ordinance, 2020 extended various deadlines under income tax laws till June 30, 2020, following the outbreak of COVID pandemic.
The CBDT issued a notification on June 24, 2020 to provide further relief to taxpayers by extending various time limits of compliances, a statement said. “The time for filing of original as well as revised income tax returns for the FY 2018-19 (AY 2019-20) has been extended to July 31, 2020,” it said.
