TIL Desk Lucknow:ЁЯСЙ Emphasising how timely medical intervention can prevent long-term disability following traumatic injuries, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow, organised an awareness session following World Trauma Day. The session highlighted the importance of the Golden Hour, the critical initial period after an injury during which rapid assessment, accurate diagnosis, and coordinated treatment can be crucial in managing life-threatening complications.
The awareness session was conducted by specialist from Neurosurgery, Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedics, and Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Manu Rastogi, Senior Director, Neurosurgery; Dr. Satinder Pal Singh Tulsi, Director, Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery; Dr. Divyanshu Dutt Dwivedi, Associate Director, Orthopaedics; and Dr. Saurabh Kumar Singh, Consultant and In-charge, Emergency Medicine, discussed the importance of recognising serious injuries, ensuring rapid ambulance response, and initiating timely emergency treatment through coordinated multi-speciality care.
The hospital highlighted the case of 12-year-old Sarthak Pandey, who sustained severe facial injuries in a bicycle accident, resulting in fractures at three separate points in the mandible (lower jaw) and facial deformity. The child was brought to Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow, where Dr. Satinder Pal Singh Tulsi, Director, Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery, performed complex facial reconstruction to realign and stabilise the fractured jaw. The procedure helped restore the child’s facial structure, and he returned to normal following treatment and recovery.
In another complex case, 35-year-old Siddhartha Singh sustained extensive facial trauma in an accident, leaving multiple facial bones shattered into small fragments. After seeking treatment at several hospitals, he reached Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow, where Dr. Tulsi and his team undertook intricate facial reconstruction. The surgeons meticulously reassembled and stabilised the fractured bone fragments using mini titanium plates, while damaged teeth were replaced to restore his bite. The treatment helped restore his facial structure and function.
Speaking on the cases, Dr Tulsi said, “Complex facial injuries, particularly those involving multiple fractures, require precise surgical planning and reconstruction to restore both facial structure and essential functions such as chewing and jaw movement. In children, the approach is even more critical, as treatment must account for facial growth and long-term functional outcomes. These cases highlight the importance of timely intervention and specialised maxillofacial expertise in managing severe trauma. With the right surgical approach, it is possible to restore facial form and function and help patients return to their normal lives.”
The cases underscore the challenges of managing severe facial trauma, where injuries can affect not only appearance but also essential functions such as chewing and jaw movement. Timely intervention and specialised maxillofacial expertise are particularly important in complex fractures requiring precise reconstruction and stabilisation.
Speaking on head and brain injuries, Dr. Manu Rastogi, Senior Director, Neurosurgery, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow, said, “In head injuries, the severity of the condition may not always be immediately apparent. Internal bleeding, brain swelling, or associated spinal injuries can deteriorate rapidly and require urgent intervention. Early assessment and timely treatment at a facility equipped to provide comprehensive trauma care can help prevent complications and improve the chances of recovery.”
Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow, has a 24x7 Emergency and Trauma Centre supported by a multidisciplinary team of emergency physicians, neurosurgeons, orthopaedic and maxillofacial surgeons, critical care specialists and anaesthesiologists. The hospital also has advanced diagnostic facilities, intensive care units, emergency operation theatres and a dedicated neuro-trauma intensive care facility under its Heart & Neuro Command Centre.
