TIL Desk Lucknow :ЁЯСЙSuez organized a special workshop on ergonomics to educate employees about correct posture and safe working practices at the workplace. Employees working in network, sewer cleaning, pumping stations, and sewage treatment plants (STPs) were educated on proper body posture during work.

Addressing the workshop, Suez's Health and Safety Manager, Pankaj Singh, explained that incorrect posture during work can put unnecessary strain on the body and lead to long-term back, neck, shoulder, and muscle problems. Therefore, safe work isn't limited to the use of safety equipment; proper work methods and correct body posture are also crucial.

He cited the example of a sanitation worker lifting a heavy manhole cover during sewer cleaning. If the manhole cover is lifted incorrectly, it can put excessive strain on the back.  Correct body position, proper knee use, and safe load handling are crucial when lifting covers.

Similarly, at pumping stations and STPs, employees should be mindful of their posture while inspecting, maintaining, cleaning, or performing other tasks on equipment. They were advised to avoid bending for long periods of time, working at inappropriate angles, or exerting unnecessary strain on the body.

During the workshop, employees were also educated on correct posture appropriate to the nature of the work, safe lifting and handling techniques, and practical ways to reduce unnecessary strain on the body.

Suez stated that "safe work" means not only preventing accidents but also ensuring the long-term health and physical safety of employees. By incorporating ergonomics into their daily work routine, employees can perform their duties in a safer and healthier manner.
