TIL Desk Lucknow:👉 Montra Electric, the electric vehicle (EV) arm of the 125-year-old Murugappa Group, today unveiled Montra Electric Chowk – a distinctive new civic landmark at the Teele Wali Masjid crossing, near King George's Medical University in Lucknow. The centrepiece is a visually striking Super Auto-themed bus shelter, inspired by the company’s electric three-wheeler. It serves both as a functional commuter space and as a symbol of the city’s growing commitment to sustainable mobility.

On the occasion, Roy Kurian, CEO, LMM, said, “At Montra Electric, we see mobility as more than just movement, it’s about access, opportunity, and dignity. Montra Electric Chowk is a small but meaningful step towards creating public spaces that reflect these values. Through initiatives like ‘Women in Charge’ and our work with auto drivers, we hope to make the transition to electric mobility more inclusive and rooted in the everyday realities of the people who keep our cities moving.”

Community-Focused Initiatives Launched Alongside

The unveiling also marked the launch of two community engagement programs at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Center, further reinforcing Montra Electric’s focus on inclusive urban mobility:

1. ‘Women in Charge’: Training Women to Drive Electric Autos

Aimed at equipping women from underserved backgrounds to operate electric autos. The 30–40-day course combines theoretical instruction, practical training, EV maintenance orientation, and licensing support. The initiative will first roll out in Kanpur, with expansion planned across other cities in Uttar Pradesh.

2. Free Eye Check-up for Auto Drivers : Addressing the need for vision care among transport workers, Montra Electric hosted a free eye screening camp for Lucknow’s auto drivers. The camp offered basic eye tests, health guidance, and referrals for follow-up treatment, underscoring the connection between driver wellbeing and road safety.

With Montra Electric Chowk, Lucknow adds a new layer to its urban fabric, one that reflects not just a changing aesthetic, but a deeper movement towards cleaner, more inclusive city systems. The project marks an early example of how public infrastructure can be reimagined to serve evolving transport goals while engaging meaningfully with the communities it supports.

The Super Auto-themed shelter stands as a symbol of this transition, a blend of heritage and innovation, where tradition meets technology on the road to a cleaner, more connected city.

Montra Electric’s three-wheeler, the Super Auto, is built to deliver superior comfort, safety and higher earnings for drivers. It features fast charging, extended range and smart connectivity, making it ideal for the dynamic demands of Indian cities. The Super Auto is available from 2 exclusive showrooms in Lucknow, one in Transport Nagar (Axis Motors) and other in Gandhi Nagar (Sun Motors) ensuring easy access to sales, service and reliable support for both individual drivers and fleet operators.
