TIL Desk Lucknow:👉To commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of late Kamla Bahuguna, the final round of a debate competition organized by the Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Smriti Samiti was held at Babu Banarasi Das University, Lucknow, involving 40 universities from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
The topic of the debate was, “Can reservations to women in India truly Achieve Gender Equality?” This contemporary subject inspired deep discussions among the students. Participants selected from 40 universities presented their perspectives on the status of women in society even after 70 years of Independence and Constitutional rights provided by the Constitution of India. Strong arguements were presented both for and against the motion.
Piyush Kumar (Bundelkhand University) won first place in the competition and prize money of Rs.51000 followed by Ratan Kumar Singh (Banaras Hindu University) in second place, with Rs.31000 money and Navedita Patel (KKC, Lucknow) in third place, prize money R’s.210000.
The event was graced by Ritu Khanduri, Speaker of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, as the chief guest, with Dr. Dinesh Sharma, MP and former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, presiding over the event. Baby Rani Maurya, a cabinet minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, attended as the Guest of Honour.
On this occasion, Professor Rita Bahuguna Joshi, the national vice president of the organizing committee, said, “My mother, the late Kamla Bahuguna, always fought for women’s empowerment and their rights. This debate competition aims to preserve those values, fostering awareness and courage in the younger generation so that they can contribute towards ensuring genuine equality for women in society.”
Other distinguished guests included Dr. Alka Das, Chancellor of BBD University, Dr. Ammar Rizvi, Avnish Awasthi, Malinì Awasthi ,several academicians and other guests. The event was conducted and concluded under the guidance of Prof. Joshi. Hundreds of students and important dignitaries participated, making it a significant platform for meaningful dialogue.
