Lady Gaga, Robert De Niro appointed New York Entertainment ambassadors

TIL Desk Hollywood/ Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys and Robert De Niro will be wearing their New York pride on their sleeves to help celebrate the city’s booming media and entertainment industries. Big Apple Mayor Bill de Blasio has appointed the trio, alongside actor John Leguizamo and De Niro’s producing partner Jane Rosenthal, as ambassadors for the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME), which is marking its 50th anniversary this year.

The announcement was made by de Blasio at a ceremony at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, when all of the celebrity representatives, except Gaga, were on hand for the event. As part of their new roles, the five stars will promote “individual contributions to the city’s cultural identity and economy”. “New York City becomes a character all its own in the films and television shows that are made here,” said De Blasio.

This landmark anniversary is an opportunity to look back and delight in all of the incredible cultural moments that the entertainment industry here in New York has made possible. I thank our MOME ambassadors for helping us ring in this spectacular year of events, and look forward to sharing in these celebrations with New Yorkers in all five boroughs.”
