Prakash Jha-Starrer Matto Ki Saikal’s Trailer Out now! Film slated for Sept 16 release

TIL Desk Entertainment/ Matto Ki Saikal (Matto’s Bicycle) starring Prakash Jha and a talented group of theatre actors of Mathura like Anita Chowdhury, Dimpy Mishra, Aarohi Sharma and Idhika Roy, did its festival rounds and now it’s all set to release in cinemas across India. The makers have released the trailer of the film. Helmed by debutant filmmaker M. Gani, it is a slice-of-life film that premiered at the 25th Busan International Film Festival in 2020. The film also had its U.S premiere at the 17th Annual South Asian International Film Festival (SAIFF).

“The script really touched me. This is the story of the other half of India who build the highways, the flyovers, the cities.. but their own lives stays where it has been forever!! It took me back to the 1980s when I started my career with documentaries and the bonded labor-themed film Damul,” says Jha, about this rooted and heartfelt film. “Gani had brought it to me with the proposal to act the part of Matto but I liked the story so much that I decided not only to act in the 95-minute movie but also support the production.” He adds.

‘Matto Ki Saikil’ is a story of hope. Matto is a daily-wage labourer who travels to the city on his cycle to earn money for his family of four. The film showcases how he and his family negotiate the simple pleasures of life. Will their lives change when finally, Matto realizes his dream of buying a new bicycle! “It is about a daily-wage laborer, his family, and their bicycle which is very dear to them. It is not just something that’s merely material. The family is very attached to it,” says Gani about his debut feature film. “The film is a contemporary one, but many situations, incidents, and people are drawn from my life,” adds the director. Shot in Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, the film has Jha playing the lead role of Matto. Matto ki Saikal is produced by Sudhirbhai Mishra under the banner Shivdeva Films, presented by PJP Films and directed by M Gani, stars Prakash Jha. The film is slated for September 16, 2022 release and will be distributed by PVR Pictures.
