CM of Gujrat Anandiben Patel resigns

CM of Gujrat Anandiben resigns; Amit Shah says her resignation letter will go to BJP board, replacement soon

TIL Desk/Ahmedabad- Her state roiled by the Patidar and Dalit protests and nervousness gripping the BJP in the run-up to the assembly elections next year, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel resigned Monday saying it is time “the younger generation gets an opportunity to work”. In New Delhi, BJP president Amit Shah said: “Anandiben Patel has offered to resign. I will place her letter before the (BJP) parliamentary board which will take the final decision.” He indicated a replacement for Patel so that the new Chief Minister has time to prepare for the Vibrant Gujarat summit in January.
Posting her resignation letter on Facebook, Patel said the BJP needed a fresh face in the state before the elections next year. “Since some time, the party has introduced a tradition of senior leaders voluntarily stepping down from responsibilities when they complete 75 years of age. Which is exemplary and imitable, which is why the younger generation gets an opportunity to work. I will also complete 75 years this November.”
