Days after SC directive, another man lynched by cow vigilantes

TIL Desk/National/Alwar/ A man named Akbar allegedly beaten to death by a mob in Ramgarh of Rajasthan’s Alwar district on suspicion of cow smuggling, police said. The incident happened last night and an investigation is underway. More details awaited.

The incident comes days after Supreme Court said that ‘horrendous acts of mobocracy’ cannot be allowed to overrun the law of the land, and asked Parliament to consider enacting a new law to ‘sternly deal with mob lynching and cow vigilantism, warning that such incidents may rise like a ‘Typhon-like monster’ across the country’.

The incident happened a little more than a year after Pehlu Khan, a dairy farmer, was lynched by cow vigilantes in the district, He was transporting cattle to his village in Haryana. Pehlu Khan died at a hospital two days after the incident on April 3 last year. He was attacked as the mob suspected him of smuggling cattle.
