TIL Desk Sports/ India captain Virat Kohli was on Monday rested for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka but will play the third and final Test, starting in Delhi on Saturday.
Spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja continued to be ignored in the 50-over format, a clear indication that they are not in the immediate scheme of things in this format. Rohit Sharma takes over as the skipper for the three-match ODI series against the Lankans.
“Current India captain Mr. Virat Kohli has been rested for the ODI series,” the BCCI said in a media release. India and Sri Lanka are currently engaged in a three-match Test series, which will be followed by three one-dayers starting December 10 in Dharamsala.
India lead the Test series 1-0 after their victory in Nagpur on Monday. The rain-hit first Test in Kolkata finished in a draw. Shreyas Iyer replaced Virat Kohli in the ODI squad, while Punjab pacer Siddarth Kaul comes in for Shardul Thakur.
