SC on Covid bodies: Treated worse than animals

TIL Desk/National/New Delhi/ The Supreme Court took cognisance on its own of reports of improper handling of COVID-19 patients and undignified disposal of the victims’ bodies around the country. An apex court official said Chief Justice of India (CJI) S.A. Bobde took note of the situation relating to the handling of COVID-19 patients and bodies of the victims and assigned the case to a bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan.

Supreme Court says that the government hospitals in Delhi aren’t giving due care and concern to the bodies. The patients’ families aren’t even informed about deaths. In some cases, families haven’t been able to attend the last rites too.  Justice M R Shah observed, “If dead bodies are being treated like this, bodies are being found in garbage…People are being treated worse than animals”.

Supreme Court says that the Government hospitals in Delhi aren’t giving due care and concern to the bodies. The patients’ families aren’t even informed about deaths. In some cases, families haven’t been able to attend the last rites too. The bench, also comprising Justices S.K. Kaul. The case is titled  “Proper Treatment of COVID-19 Patients and Dignified Handling of Dead Bodies in Hospitals etc.”
