TIL Desk/National/New Delhi-Kejriwal government has moved the Supreme Court against the High Court order that said that Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung is the ultimate authority and the administrative head of Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party government needed firm legal ground to move Supreme Court against the High Court order this time.
A series of Special Leave Petitions will be filed to seek an explanation on the responsibilities that have been delegated to authorities in Delhi according to the reports. This comes in just a day after the Lieutenant Governor ordered transfer of several senior officials engaged in flagship projects of the AAP government, prompting Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to accuse Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being “hell bent” to “destroy” Delhi.
Najeeb Jung also appointed a three-member committee on Tuesday to examine over 400 files submitted by the Delhi Government. Reacting to this, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has been slamming the L-G and his officials on twitter. The Delhi High Court in August had dismissed the Aam Aadmi Party government’s petition challenging the powers of the Lieutenant Governor in the National Capital Territory. The court stated that AAP government’s contention that the LG is bound to act on advice of Council of Ministers is without any substance and cannot be accepted.
