Bharat Jodo Yatra: Thousands turn up to join and witness Rahul's march in Kerala

TIL Desk/National/Thiruvananthapuram/ Thousands of people in Kerala turned up to join and witness the Bharat Jodo Yatra of the Congress party, spearheaded by the party scion Rahul Gandhi. Rahul is leading the 150-day Bharat Jodo Yatra which would cover the distance of 3,570 km from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu to Jammu and Kashmir. The Congress party has hailed the movement as “transformational moment” for Indian politics and a “decisive moment” for the party’s revival.

It also says it’s the party’s biggest mass-contact movement since Independence. Rahul launched the Yatra in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari on September 7. The Yatra entered Kerala on Saturday evening. Monday marks the second day of the Yatra in Kerala and the fifth day overall. Rahul commenced his walk from Vellayani junction in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday morning.  “Every morning fills me with hope and conviction that a better tomorrow awaits India and our young generation. Everyone for India, Every step for India,” he said in a Facebook post.

Besides those turning up to join the foot march, scores of people lined up on both sides of the road to witness the ‘padayatra’ led by Rahul, who is also the MP from Wayanad in Kerala. “Day 5 of #BharatJodoYatra began in right earnest as usual around 7am from Vellayani junction at the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram. The morning session of the padayatra will cover around 11 kms moving into the heart of the capital of Kerala,” AICC general secretary in-charge of Communications Jairam Ramesh tweeted.
