TIL New/National/New Delhi/ Both the Houses of Parliament on Friday witnessed an uproar after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sought the Congress’ apology over Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad’s reference to Uri terror attack in the context of demonetisation.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned within minutes of convening today as Opposition members protested loudly and demanded a debate on the government`s demonetisation move under rules that entail voting.
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said the poor were suffering due to the spiking of Rs 500 and 1,000 notes.Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar, however, said people supported the measure aimed at to curb unaccounted wealth and corruption in the country. As Opposition members created a ruckus, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the house till 12.
In the Upper House, Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi sought Congress’ apology, while Congress MPs were seen demanding an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the demonetisation scheme. “The Leader of Opposition in the House should apologise to the nation for his comments against the Prime Minister, who is fighting for the poor and the weak.”
