‘Don’t Agree with Digvijaya Singh’s Surgical Strike Remarks’: Rahul Gandhi

TIL Desk/National/Srinagar/ Reacting to party leader Digvijaya Singh’s statement on surgical strike, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said he doesn’t agree with Singh’s remarks and the armed forces need not provide any proof of the strikes.

“We don’t appreciate Digvijaya Singh’s personal views. His views are outlying views. We are absolutely clear that the armed forces do their job exceptionally well and they do not need to provide proof of that,” Gandhi said while addressing a press conference during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jammu.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also distanced the party from Singh’s remark. “We have already clarified that the party stands with the Army. We have always been working for the country and will keep doing the same. We have immense respect for our Army,” Kharge said.

Earlier on Monday, party’s in charge of communication Jairam Ramesh had tweeted, ‘The views expressed by senior leader Digvijaya Singh are his own and do not reflect the position of Congress. Surgical strikes were carried out before 2014 by the UPA government. Congress has supported and will continue to support all military actions that are in the national interest.’
