TIL Desk/National/New Delhi/ The Election Commission on Friday wrote to Finance Ministry directing not to use indelible ink in banks. EC raised the concern as several states will be going to polls and this is one of major points to mark citizens who have already voted.
The district election authorities on Wednesday had asked the banks and post offices to apply indelible ink mark on the right hand index finger of those seeking to exchange the banned Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes, so that there is no repetition by the same customer.
Hence, the voters should also make it clear to the bank staff that the ink mark should be applied on their right hand index finger as they were to vote in the by-election, he added. Indelible ink can be applied by the cashier or any other official designated by the bank so that while the exchange of notes is taking place, it will allow the ink to dry up and prevent removal of ink. Indelible ink can be applied only on the index finger of the left hand or any other finger of the left hand cannot be used.
