TIL Desk/National/New Delhi/ Amid speculations of major political changes in Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to chair a meeting with all political parties from the region on June 24, government officials told. This comes in the backdrop of J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha meeting Union home minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Friday.
This meeting assumes significance because it was Sinha’s second visit to New Delhi this month amid speculations about the possible restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and holding of elections in J&K by the end of this year.
Meanwhile, Modi’s upcoming meet with various political parties will be the first such exercise undertaken by the Centre since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 and according to officials, Modi will discuss bolstering “political processes” in the region. The meeting is likely to be attended by Shah as well as other Union cabinet ministers.
The central leadership has begun the process of inviting National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah, PDP chairperson Mehbooba Mufti, Altaf Bukhari of the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP), and People’s Conference head Sajjad Lone for the discussion, the officials said.
