TIL Desk/National/New Delhi/ A Congress delegation, led by Rahul Gandhi, met President Ram Nath Kovind in Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday morning, over the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
Coming out of Rashtrapati Bhavan, Gandhi told newsmen, “We told the President that the accused Ashish Mishra’s father Ajay Mishra, who is MoS Home, should be removed from the post as a fair probe is not possible in his presence. Likewise, we also demanded an inquiry be done by two sitting judges of the Supreme Court.”
The party had on October 10 written to Rashtrapati Bhavan seeking an appointment with the President for a seven-member party delegation to meet him. The delegation presented a detailed memorandum of facts in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence that claimed the lives of eight people on October 3.
The Congress delegation consisted of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, AK Antony, Mallikarjun Kharge, KC Venugopal, Ghulam Nabi Azad, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, besides Rahul Gandhi. “The President has given us the assurance that he will discuss the matter with the government today itself,’ Priyanka Gandhi told newsmen.
