TIL Desk/National/New Delhi/ Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi appeared before a civil court in Patna in connection with a defamation suit filed against him by senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi.
Rahul was granted bail by the court soon after he appeared in connection with defamation case. Last April, the Bihar deputy CM had filed a defamation case against Gandhi for his reported statement that “all thieves have Modi as their surnames”.
Modi, the senior BJP leader had filed the case under Section 500 of the IPC. “Rahul defames and hurts the sentiments of everyone who has the Modi surname,” he had said.
According to Congress leaders, Rahul Gandhi arrived on Saturday afternoon and directly went to the court to appear before it. Rahul Gandhi will return to Delhi in the evening as he was not given permission to visit Muzaffarpur district, where more than 150 children died due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome in June this year.
