Kanpur Test: Williamson, Latham lead NZ's strong reply

TIL Desk Sports/ India’s bowlers, Jadeja and Shami, have not been able to build any sort of impression on the two Kiwi batsmen. The singles have come quite regularly with a few boundary balls in between as the left-right combo has proved to be a problem for the bowlers. Jadeja oversteps to bowl the first no-ball of the match as NZ reach 97 for one in 30 overs, trailing India by 221 runs.

Kohli continues with his tactics of bowling with seamer from on end as Yadav replaces Shami with Ashwin yet to bowl after lunch. A full delivery which comes in sharply is hit through midwicket where Rahul makes a good stop to save some runs. Ashwin comes back, replacing Jadeja as India are desperate to make a breakthrough.

Williamson hits the first ball through thirdman for two runs to raise New Zealand’s 100, in the 32nd over. He then goes across his crease before paddling Ashwin fine for one and Latham turns the offie on the leg side for a single. Ashwin gets one to rear off the pitch, hitting Williamson on the jaw protector on the helmet as he comes forward to defend. Williamson turns the fifth ball again to fine leg for a single as they look to rotate the strike against Ashwin and not let him settle down.
