TIL Desk Sports/ Former India captain and former chairman of the selection committee Krishnamachari Srikkanth on Monday questioned the absence of Mohammed Shami from India’s T20 World Cup Squad, insisting Shami would be a perfect selection for the soft pitch of Australia.
As per Srikkanth Shami could have handed India quick wickets with the new ball Down Under. The 62-year-old former cricketer’s remark was prompted by the BCCI announced India’s 15-man team for the T20 World Cup 2022, beginning on the 22nd of October. Veteran fast bowler Shami was selected as part of an unofficial standby of four players however he does not appear in the Squad in its entirety.
Jasprit Bumrah, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar together with all-rounder Hardik Pandya are fast-bowling alternatives in the team. The 32-year-old Shami hasn’t played a single T20I since India’s disastrous ICC T20 World Cup campaign in the UAE in November 2021.
Srikkanth, however, said it’s unfair to cut the pacer out of the scheme of things in the most compact version of the game. “Mohammed Shami could have been in the stadium. You’re playing in Australia. Shami can be bounce in Australia, he has an arm that is high.
