TIL Desk Sports/ Former world champion Tyson Gay will not be able to compete at this year’s world athletics championships, after failing to reach the final of either of his preferred sprint events at the US athletics championships here.
Gay missed the final of the 200 meters on Sunday after finishing in a time of 21.37 seconds in his semi-final. The 34-year-old finished third place in his 100-meter heat on Friday
Despite the failure, Gay, who has struggled with form since the shooting death of his teenaged daughter in Kentucky in October, told reporters that he had no intention of ending his career just yet.
“I’m going to try to race at least a couple more times, hopefully,” Gay said. “I’m still fit, I’ve just got to put it together.” Gay owned the second-fastest time over 100 metres ever set — behind Usain Bolt’s world record of 9.58 seconds.
