Former India captain Ajinkya Rahane has been signed by Amsterdam Flames as the franchise’s marquee player for the inaugural edition of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL), marking one of the biggest signings ahead of the tournament’s launch. The move is expected to strengthen both the franchise and the league’s vision of expanding cricket across Europe.
With more than 190 international appearances for India across formats, Rahane brings vast experience, calm leadership and proven consistency to the Amsterdam-based franchise. His inclusion reflects the club’s ambition to establish itself as one of Europe’s premier cricket teams while contributing to the long-term growth of the sport in the region.
Welcoming Rahane, Amsterdam Flames Co-founder and Chief Cricket Officer Steve Waugh described the former India skipper as the ideal professional, praising his leadership, humility and ability to perform under pressure. Waugh said Rahane’s experience and character would play a key role in shaping the club’s culture and helping build a successful franchise.
