The 9th Armed Forces Veterans Day was celebrated with great elan and reverence in Lucknow Station under the aegis of Surya Command. The event saw an overwhelming participation of approximately 800 veterans, symbolising their enduring trust in the Armed Forces and their strong connection with the society.
The event was attended by Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, GOC-in-C, Central Command and a large number of serving officers from the station. The celebrations highlighted the unwavering commitment of the Indian Army towards honouring its veterans and fostering a strong bond between serving personnel and the veteran community.
The function commenced with a solemn Wreath Laying Ceremony at Smritika War Memorial. Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, the Army Commander, Central Command along with senior members of the veterans’ community, paid homage to the fallen heroes who laid down their lives in service of the Nation. The program continued at Surya Auditorium where updates on various welfare initiatives undertaken for veterans, were shared.
Ten distinguished veterans including Lt Col Hem Lohumi, Col Dushyant Singh, Col Ashutosh Mishra (Retd), Sqn Ldr Rakhi Agarwal, Sqn Ldr Abhai Pratap Singh (Retd), Col BKD Baijal, Subedar Maj Rishi Dixit (Retd), Subedar (Hony Capt) Indal Singh (Retd). Naik Kamlesh Kumar Pandey (Retd), Subedar Rajkumar Singh (Retd) were felicitated with ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ in recognition of their remarkable contributions to the Nation and society. The felicitation underscored the vital role veterans play in nation building through their experience, discipline and service-oriented ethos.
Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta, GOC-in-C Central Command interacted with the veterans, addressing their grievances and taking suggestions. He assured the veterans of commitment of the Armed Forces to ensure welfare of its veterans.
