TIL Desk Lucknow/ The Uttar Pradesh State Mega Expo 2023 is set to showcase and promote the indigenous silk industry in India. Organised jointly by the Directorate of Sericulture, Khadi and Village Industries Board, MSME, Handicrafts Department, and Silk Mark Organization under the aegis of the Government of India, this nine-day event will be held at the L2 Lawn of the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomti Nagar.

The Mega Expo, to be organised from November 3 to November 11, will bring together artisans and craftsmen from across the country and UP, including those involved in silk and khadi fabric production, as well as creators of clay sculptures and artworks. Mr. Sunil Verma, Director of the Sericulture Development Department, highlighted the primary objective of boosting the silk industry throughout the nation. He emphasised the importance of creating awareness about silk among the general public and also for increasing its utilisation. He told that silk exports in UP already increased by 28 times in last 9 years from 9.11 Crore₹ to 251.65 Crore ₹.

Additionally, artisans from various regions will showcase their talents, all prepared to captivate the public with their unique crafts. These efforts will not only promote each district’s distinctive products but also provide extensive employment opportunities for local residents.

In an effort to instill a sense of appreciation for khadi, handloom and silk among the youth, a fashion event is also being scheduled for November 7 in Jupitor Hall. This fashion show will feature models walking the ramp in khadi, handloom and silk garments, designed by local artisans. Furthermore, the event will highlight exquisite terracotta sculptures, serving as a centre of attraction. This initiative aims not only to enhance the enthusiasm of local artists but also to provide economic strength to the region.
