TIL Desk Lucknow/ Deen Dayal Upadhyay State Institute of Rural Development organized one day regional Seminar on ‘Women Farmers/Daily Wage Laborers in relation to Migration in association with National Women commission. Inaugural session of this one day regional seminar was presided over by Addl. Director of SIRD B.D Chaudhary and Chief Guest of this Program was State Cabinet Minister for ICDS, Baby Rani Maurya in presence of special guests Meenakshi Negi, Member Secretary of National Women Commission, GoI and other senior National/State Level Educationists. This Seminar was participated by women farmers/daily wage workers in relation to migration.
Inaugural session of this seminar at the place of chief guest, State Cabinet Minister for ICDS, Baby Rani Maurya stated that women play a significant and crucial role in agricultural development including, main crop production , livestock production, horticulture, post-harvesting operations, agro/social forestry, fishing etc. increasing percentage of female operational holders during different agriculture Censuses indicates participation of more and more women in operation and management of agricultural holdings in the country. The proportion of women working in the agriculture sector as self-employed, unpaid health are wage labor. Globally, there is empirical evidence that women have a decisive role in ensuring food security and preserving local agro-biodiversity. The current situation of rural transformation has brought to light women’s role in agriculture.
Addressing to the women participants the special guests of this seminar, Member Secretary of National Women Commission, Meenakshi Negi stated that the women are central to the development of rural areas; they account for a great proportion of the agricultural labor force produce the majority of food grain rural women’s contributions are vital to the well-being of families and communities, and of local and national economics. It is critical that their contributions be recognized and that they are included in decision-making processes at all levels of government, and within rural organizations. Rural women are key agents for achieving the transformational economic, environmental and social challenges required for sustainable development. But limited access to credit, healthcare and education are among the many challenges they face, which are further aggravated by the global food and economic crisis and climate change.
Presiding of this program the Addl. Director B.D. Chaudhary stated that there are some important factors regarding to regulate the act and rules through this program. The differential access of women to resources like land, credit, water, seeds and markets needs to be addressed. Towards this, government has been implementing various schemes which help improve the entitlements of women farmers, which will prove to be advantageous in bridging the policy gaps which exists in the sector. Gender main streaming initiatives are being promoted in the department of agriculture, cooperation and farmer welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, by way of building their capacities and improving their access to inputs, technologies and other farming resources.
The Convener of this program Dr. S.K Singh Assistant Director of SIRD, Nodal Officer Kumar Deepak, Deputy Director Dr. Suresh Singh, Deputy Director Dr. Neerja Gupta and Computer Operator Md. Shahrukh quietly performed their roles regarding management, supervision and operation of this regional level seminar.
