TIL Desk Lucknow:👉Doctors at Max Hospital, Lucknow successfully treated 25-year-old patient who was involved in high-speed motorbike accident and bones in his entire face was crushes into small pieces and other injuries.
A multi-disciplinary team of doctors led by Dr Satinder Pal Singh Tulsi, Director in Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dr Saurabh Kumar Singh at Max Hospital, Lucknow, saved life of the patient who came in a critical condition but also reconstructed his face to restore facial aesthetics and to ensure the patient can chew normally post recovery.
The patient, who hails from Prayagraj, landed in the emergency of Max Hospital, Lucknow multiple complex injuries, including severe facial fractures and fractures in the right leg and left clavicle. The injuries included fractures in the jaw, cheekbones, eye sockets, and nose, along with significant damage to the lips and teeth.
“Upon arrival, the patient was immediately assessed by team in Emergency. The patient’s injuries were so severe that his face had swollen to about three the normal size of the face. We stabilised the patient. To ensure the patient’s safety, a tracheostomy was performed by Dr Satinder Pal Singh Tulsi to secure the airway, and the patient was the taken by for surgery,” Dr Saurabh Kumar Singh, Consultant and Incharge- Emergency Medicine at Max Hospital, Lucknow.
The surgical team then undertook a complex operation, lasting approximately 3-4 hours, to repair the multiple facial fractures.
“The patient’s injuries were so severe that we had to reconstruct his entire face. The procedure involved the use of mini titanium plates and screws to stabilise the bones, as well as soft tissue reconstruction of the lips. The primary focus was on restoring the patient’s facial structure and ensuring that he would be able to chew and function normally again. This required meticulous work to align the bones correctly and reconstruct the soft tissues,” said Dr. Satinder Pal Singh Tulsi, Senior Consultant in Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery, Max Hospital.
Thanks to the expertise of the medical team, the patient’s surgery was successful, and he showed significant improvement post-operation. The patient was discharged on the eighth day and recovering well.
Dr. Tulsi also emphasized the importance of timely intervention: “If these fractures had not been addressed promptly, the patient could have faced severe complications, including major facial asymmetry and permanent difficulty in chewing.”
