Pioneering Leadless Pacemaker Procedure Saves Life of 67-Year-Old Patient at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow

TIL Desk Lucknow:👉Marking a significant milestone in advanced cardiac care, doctors at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow, have successfully saved the life of a 67-year-old patient battling a severe cardiac condition by performing a dual chamber leadless pacemaker.

The patient, who was suffering from chest discomfort and palpitations and had been experiencing repeated episodes of fainting since 3days/months, was brought to the emergency department at Max Hospital, Lucknow. Upon admission, a detailed evaluation revealed Sick Sinus Syndrome—a condition in which the heart’s natural pacemaker fails to maintain a normal heartbeat.

Faced with this complex case, the cardiology team led by Dr. Danish Hasan Kazmi, Director & Unit Head – Cardiology, Max Hospital, Lucknow, chose a revolutionary approach, a minimally invasive implantation of the AVEIR DR dual-chamber leadless pacemaker.

Speaking on the case, Dr. Danish Hasan Kazmi, said, “As an active individual who enjoys outdoor activities and swimming, the patient was concerned about the limitations associated with a conventional pacemaker, including a chest incision, visible device, and activity restrictions. Unlike conventional pacemakers that require chest incisions and wires to connect the device to the heart, this cutting-edge technology is delivered via a catheter, eliminating the need for surgical cuts or stitches.”

Highlighting the advantages of this technology, Dr Kazmi further said, “The Aveir DR represents a major advancement in cardiac rhythm management. This technology offers physiological dual-chamber pacing without leads or a surgical pocket, reducing procedure-related complications while allowing patients to return to their normal lives much sooner. We are proud to bring this advanced technology to patients in Lucknow.”

The implantation was completed without complications, and the patient was discharged the very next day with complete mobility. With no surgical scar, visible chest bump, or pacing wires, he was able to resume his daily activities without restrictions.

The successful procedure marks a significant clinical milestone for Max Super Speciality Hospital, Lucknow, further strengthening its position as a centre for advanced cardiac interventions in the region.
