Revolutionary FLN FAST-TRACK CAMP Launched by DEVI Sansthan: Accelerating Learning for Every Child

Achieving universal FLN is the highest priority of India’s New Education Policy 2020. With current rates at which children learn the foundational skills, it is not possible to achieve the goals before 2026/27, a deadline set by NIPUN Bharat Mission. Traditional methods of education often require three to five years for students to achieve the foundational skills. Instead, the DEVI FLN FAST-TRACK CAMP is using a new revolutionary pedagogy called ALfA (Accelerating Learning for All) to speed up learning at an unprecedented rate.

The DEVI FLN Camp is a further opportunity to showcase the power of this new pedagogy by making children acquire these FLN skills within just 10 days. The Ministry of Education invited Sunita Gandhi, who created ALfA after eight years of research, to implement this in two low-performing districts of India in 2022. The program showed remarkable results, and has been written up in a recent book by Harvard Graduate School of Education, USA. BACKGROUND
India has been facing the tremendous challenge of achieving universal literacy, as outlined in the NIPUN Bharat Mission and the New Education Policy 2020. Even prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, only half of 10-year-old children in Class 5 could read, write, or perform basic arithmetic after five years of schooling. DEVI Sansthan recognized this urgent need for change and developed the ALfA (Accelerating Learning for All) program, which has shown remarkable results within a span of 45 days.

The DEVI FLN FAST-TRACK CAMP is an extension of this success, providing intensive instruction for one week to ten days, leading to Grade 3-level proficiency in reading, writing, and arithmetic. By condensing the learning process through a six-period daily curriculum, DEVI Sansthan aimed to empower children with essential skills at an accelerated pace. FLN FAST-TRACK CAMP marked a significant milestone in DEVI Sansthan’s efforts to revolutionize education in India and beyond.
