TIL Desk Lucknow:
The city of Nawabs rolled out a warm welcome for Shakti Anand, Sneha Wagh, and Manasi Salvi, along with Producer Saurabh Tewari, as they arrived in Lucknow to promote COLORS’ recent family drama ‘Mahadev & Sons’, set in U.P.’s Hardoi. ‘Kuch rishtey misaal ban jaate hain… aur kuch misaalon ka bojh ban kar reh jaate hain’. Winning hearts of the viewers since its premiere, the story is backdropped to the extraordinary rise of Mahadev (Shakti Anand), an orphan who entered the powerful Bajpai household as a servant and emerged as one of the town’s most respected and wealthy men. His forbidden love for Vidya (Sneha Wagh), his master’s daughter, cost her everything – her home, her name, and her inheritance. Disowned and disgraced, the couple rebuilt their lives brick by brick, with discipline and tradition, choosing dignity over bitterness. What begins as a journey of sacrifice slowly grows into a close-knit, happy parivaar where days begin and end together with shared meals, temple visits, celebrations, and unspoken rituals that bind them as one. Mahadev is not just the head of the family but a doting husband and an involved, proud father (of three sons and two daughters), who believes that a family must work, worship, and celebrate together.
Living across from Mahadev & Sons, Vidya’s elder sister Bhanu (Manasi Salvi) stands in opposition, her unresolved resentment casting a long shadow over this seemingly perfect world. Burdened by the price of his own love story and terrified of history repeating itself, Mahadev draws one unbreakable line for his children: love marriages are forbidden. His rules keep the family together, but at a cost; his children obey him, yet silently yearn for choice, for voice, for love without fear. Will the love Mahadev once fought society for become the very force that tests his family’s unity?
Producer Saurabh Tewari of Parin Multimedia Pvt. Ltd., whose longstanding collaboration with COLORS has brought ‘Mahadev & Sons’ to life, says, “It is an honour to usher in the new year with Mahadev & Sons on COLORS. For me, this is not just a show — it is a piece of my life. I was born and raised in Uttar Pradesh and spent significant time in and around Hardoi and Lucknow. The story draws from the people I observed growing up, the emotions I absorbed, and the relationships that shaped my understanding of family. Uttar Pradesh has its own language of love, loyalty, pride, and conflict, and I wanted to bring that world to a national platform without losing its authenticity. Bringing the show back to UP feels like returning a story to its rightful home — to the mitti where it was seeded. There is a deep sense of ‘apnapan’ in this land that I have carried with me all my life. This show is meant for families to sit together, see themselves in these characters, and find both reflection and comfort in their journey.”
Taking on the mantle of the patriarch Mahadev, Shakti Anand says, “The kind of love people have shown for Mahadev & Sons has been very moving and I’m grateful for it. When viewers respond with such warmth, it tells you they have found the character relatable and emotionally honest. Mahadev is not a conventional TV patriarch; his authority comes from years of struggle, restraint, and lived experience. So, it genuinely warms my heart that a father’s role has received this level of appreciation. Witnessing the excitement and affection among the people of Lucknow was truly incredible.”
Speaking about her portrayal of Vidya, Sneha Wagh shared, “I often travel to Uttar Pradesh, but this visit felt different and special. Vidya is an amalgam of all the loving mothers I have observed through my life — women who stand by love, absorb pain, soften conflicts, and hold families together with compassion. These traits are so deeply rooted in Indian households. To receive such a heartfelt response for this portrayal has been fulfilling. Coming to the state where the seed of Mahadev & Sons was first planted feels like a beautiful full-circle moment in my journey as an actor.”
Reflecting on audience reactions to Bhanu, Manasi Salvi said, “As an actor, there is immense satisfaction in seeing viewers appreciate a grey character. Bhanu’s pride is her strength and her downfall, and her anger comes from emotional wounds, not cruelty. To have audiences from the very state where this story is set acknowledge
and applaud that complexity feels like the ultimate compliment. I am grateful to viewers for embracing a story that speaks to every generation and offers something for every member of the family.”
Catch Mahadev & Sons every Monday to Friday at 9:30 pm, only on COLORS and JioHotstar, and witness a family saga that tests loyalties, challenges traditions, and celebrates the enduring power of love.
