The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) inaugurated the State-Level Umpires and Scorers Workshop (Men’s and Women’s categories) at the newly constructed Players’ Pavilion of Green Park Stadium on Thursday. The workshop was formally inaugurated by UPCA Secretary Prem Manohar Gupta. Being held after a gap of nearly three years, the workshop has brought together 133 participants, including 96 umpires and 37 scorers from 35 districts across Uttar Pradesh.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Manoj Pundir, Chairman of the UPCA Umpires Committee, who highlighted the objectives and significance of the workshop and encouraged participants to gain an in-depth understanding of the Laws of Cricket.
Former International Umpire Anil Chaudhary addressed the participants, emphasizing that a successful umpire requires a thorough knowledge of the game’s laws, impartiality, and consistent practice. He also shared valuable insights into various technical aspects of umpiring and urged the attendees to make the most of the workshop.
BCCI Senior Scoring Educator P. Jayapal spoke about the crucial role and responsibilities of scorers, stressing the importance of accuracy and technical proficiency in modern cricket scoring.
UPCA Secretary Prem Manohar Gupta extended his best wishes for the successful conduct of the workshop and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to the development of cricket in the state through regular training of match officials. He informed that participants securing 80 percent or more marks in the written examination will be invited for practical, oral, and visual assessments in September.
The workshop also features the participation of seven women umpires and two women scorers, reflecting the growing involvement of women in cricket officiating.
Among those present were UPCA Treasurer Sachin Anand Shukla, Director Riyasat Ali, Dr. Gaur Hari Singhania Cricket Academy CEO Deepak Sharma, Vice President (Finance & Strategy) Sujit Srivastava, General Manager (Women) Rita Dey, General Manager (Finance & Accounts) Anurag Gupta, Scorers Committee Member Anurag Rathore, Chief Scorer S.P. Singh, A.P. Singh, and other UPCA officials.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Deepak Sharma, CEO of Dr. Gaur Hari Singhania Cricket Academy, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, educators, and participants while wishing them success in their future endeavors.
