TIL Desk Lucknow/ Surya Command, Indian Army commemorated 8th Armed Forces Veterans’ Day in Lucknow on 14 January 2024,. Veterans’ Day is an occasion to show respect for the selfless duty of the ex-servicemen of the three Armed Forces & their sacrifices towards the Nation. It is also an occasion to express solidarity to the families of the brave hearts, who laid down their lives for the nation.
GOC-in-C Lt. Gen Raja Subramani and senior veterans laid a wreath at the Smritika War Memorial, paying homage to bravehearts who laid down their lives for the nation.
Subsequently, the Veterans’ Day celebrations were held at Surya Officers Institute. Approximately 2200 Veer Naaris, Veterans, Gallantry Awardees, armed forces personnel and civil dignitaries attended the event. Veteran Gallantry Awardees winners were felicitated on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak paid homage to the veterans of the Indian Armed Forces for their service to the nation. He applauded the courage and valour of the Indian Army. Shri Pathak also added that the Indian Armed Forces have always given a befitting reply to any threat to our nation’s sovereignty.
GOC-in-C Surya Command, Lt. Gen Raja Subramani expressed deep gratitude to all veterans for their contribution in defending the nation. He assured that Surya Command is taking proactive steps in synergy with the state government to ensure welfare of all veterans.
Veterans’ Day is celebrated in recognition of the services rendered by the First Commander-in-Chief of Indian Armed Forces, Field Marshal KM Cariappa, OBE who retired on this day in 1953. Veterans of all three services, Gallantry award winners, Veer Naris and widows of ex-servicemen as well as senior civil and military dignitaries were present on the occasion.
