TIL Desk Lucknow/ On occasion of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Apollomedics Superspecialty Hospital has announced the launch of their dedicated unit for treatment of Paediatric Oncology, Haematology, and Bone Marrow Transplant. Till now, patients had to travel to distant cities like Delhi-Mumbai for treatment of these serious diseases, and along with the cost of treatment, the patients and their families had to bear the additional expenses of travel, accommodation. With the launch of Apollomedics Superspeciality Hospital’s dedicated Paediatric Oncology Treatment, Haematology, and Bone Marrow Transplant unit, patients will get advanced medical treatments in Lucknow itself.

One of the leading luminary of Paediatric Oncology & Haematology, Prof (Dr) Archana Kumar has joined us as the Head of Department for Paediatric Oncology & Haematology. An alumni of Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, University of Wisconsin and University of California- Los Angeles, Prof Archana is a renowned expert of Paediatric Oncology, Paediatric Haematology, Haematological Disorders, Clinical Haematology, Leukemia/Lymphoma (Paediatric and Young Adults), Brain Tumors, Solid Tumors.
She has a vast experience of more than 38 years in the field and has previously held the position of Professor – Paediatrics and Incharge, Paediatric Haematology Oncology at KGMU-Lucknow & now will be leading our Paediatric Oncology & Haematology Department along with Dr Anil Sharma (Former SGPGIMS Lucknow) We Also have started the facility of Bone Marrow Transplant with stringent infection protocols so that if any child requires, it can be treated with utmost care & safety. We have Dr Sunil Dabadghao, who was formerly working at SGPGI, as Senior Consultant – Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant & Dr. Priyanka Chauhan who also is an Alumni of SGPGIMS Lucknow for Bone Marrow and stem cell transplantation.
Prof (Dr) Archana Kumar said, “India accounts for more than 20% of the total childhood cancer cases. Every year, 2 lakh children die of cancer globally and the number is gradually increasing. Children are not adults; their needs are different and need to be treated by someone who is specially trained to look after them. Paediatric oncologists are responsible for treating all malignant conditions among children like leukemia, bone cancers, Wilms tumor, brain and spinal cord tumors among several others. With timely, appropriate and complete treatment, majority of children with cancer get cured and can lead their lives peacefully.
