TIL Desk Lucknow: Yesterday, in a special press conference organized at the Lucknow Press Club, an important statement came to the fore, challenging the traditional thinking of the medical field regarding diabetes. In this dialogue organized under the banner of Appropriate Diet Therapy Center, information was given about the Diabetes Free India campaign, which has been started by Bharat Gaurav Award winning scientist Dr. S. Kumar. In his address, the keynote speaker of the program, Dr. Varun rejected the notion of considering diabetes as an ‘incurable disease’ and said,
“Diabetes is not a disease, but a lifestyle-induced ‘sugar utilization disorder’, which can be controlled without medicine and insulin, only by accurate testing and proper diet.”
A scientific journey from the discovery of diabetes to today:
Dr. Varun outlined the development of diabetes and said:
1. In 1921, Sir Frederick Banting and Charles Best discovered insulin.
2. In 1936, He told Hinsworth classified diabetes into type-1 (insulin is not produced) and type-2 (insulin is produced but is not used).
3. In 1970, Jeffrey Flyer and Harold Olefsky said that cellular receptor defect is the main reason behind insulin resistance.
Dr. S. Kumar made a detailed study of all these researches and came to this shocking conclusion
*90% of the patients are wrongly diagnosed with diabetes only on the basis of increased sugar level, whereas the amount of insulin in their body is normal.
According to Dr. S. Kumar, the reason for increased blood sugar in most of the patients is not the lack of insulin production, but the inability to use the sugar present in the blood. This is the reason that before 1921, there was an era of Hypoinsulinemia (i.e. lack of insulin), but today the real culprit hidden in this kitchen is cooking oil.
Dr. Kumar made it clear in his research that the refined oil derived from seeds (such as soybean, sunflower etc.) used in the kitchen is the biggest culprit which damages the receptors and becomes the main cause of insulin resistance. When the oils made from seeds used in the kitchen (Refined Oils) are heated, they emit smoke, which gives rise to trans fatty acids, AGES, and more than 30 harmful chemicals. These substances:
Destroy insulin receptors
Prevent sugar from entering cells
Create insulin resistance
Damage beta cells of pancreas
“Diabetes starts from the kitchen, its solution should also come from there.”- Dr. Varun
In this press conference, President of Indian Ex-Services League, Lucknow, Subedar Major (Retd.) Shri Rishi Dixit and Shri R.B. Singh and other officials also expressed their views and said that Diabetes Free India Campaign is very important for the society. Dixit ji said that the brave soldiers of our country have dedicated their lives to protect the country. Now it is our duty to unite and protect everyone’s health. Dr. S. We are proud to be associated with Kumar’s campaign, and we are confident that this initiative will improve the health of diabetes patients.”
The right method of testing is the key to accurate treatment
According to Dr. Kumar, only fasting, post meal and HbA1c sugar tests do not give the correct assessment of diabetes. He suggested eight special types of tests, which determine whether the patient really has diabetes or not. These tests are based on fasting serum insulin, C-peptide, HOMA IR, beta cell function, insulin sensitivity and other biomarkers.
Understand diabetes, defeat it not with medicines, but with the right diet!
Dr. Varun concluded his speech by saying: “If the disease is caused by food, then its solution also lies in food. Now the time has come to challenge the dependence on insulin and medicines for diabetes and to make diet therapy based on correct scientific methods available to the society.”
On this occasion, the Center Incharge Mr. Vinod Awasthi, Dietician Mrs. Mamta Pandey and Mrs. Alka Srivastava from the team of Appropriate Diet Therapy Center Lucknow and IT Specialist Mr. Raj Kamal Tripathi were also present and played an important role in the success of the program.
