TIL Desk/Kanpur- Hundred of students of IIT-Kanpur on Tuesday blocked G T Road and staged a demonstration outside the campus accusing the doctors of the institute’s health centre of harassment and medical negligence after a 26-year-old research scholar died of cardiac arrest on Monday.
Four employees of the IIT were booked in connection with the death, even as the institute formed a committee to probe the incident.
Police said Alok Pandey, a PhD student of material science programme – hailing from Ghazipur – complained of severe pain in the chest and neck on Monday afternoon.
He was rushed to the health centre of the institute, from where he was referred to Kamlapat Singhania Heart Institute.
He, however, was declared brought dead on arrival at the hospital.After the news of Pandey’s death spread, students from his hostel protested alleging medical negligence.
Adarsh lodged a complaint on the basis of which an FIR was registered under section 304B (causing death by negligence) against Dr Kishore, the warden in-charge, guide Kamal Kekar and the hospital administrator. He also alleged that Alok was mistreated and tortured in the campus hostel.
