Parivartan State Report: HDFC Bank Parivartan Touches Over 2 Crore Lives in Uttar Pradesh

Bank’s CSR outreach in the state is spread across 30 districts

TIL Desk Lucknow/ HDFC Bank, India’s leading private sector bank, under its CSR brand Parivartan, announced that it has so far made a positive difference in the lives of over two crore people in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Parivartan runs several social interventions across the state through its five pillars: Rural Development, Promotion of Education, Skill Training & Livelihood Enhancement, Healthcare & Hygiene, and Financial Literacy & Inclusion.

Ms. Nusrat Pathan, Head-CSR, HDFC Bank said, “The goal of HDFC Bank Parivartan is to make qualitative improvement in the lives of local communities. We have identified the most disadvantaged groups in the state and are committed to making them self-reliant through Parivartan. Our aim is to break the cycle of poverty and marginalisation by empowering underprivileged communities and thus, contribute towards nation-building.”

Rural Development:

Under this pillar, Parivartan promotes holistic rural development of communities. In Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, Shravasti, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, and Bulandshahar, Parivartan is promoting natural farming that is based on the use of traditional seeds and local resource-based agriculture. In addition, around 485 solar-powered streetlights have been installed in Chandauli, Gorakhpur, Kaushambi, Shahjahanpur, and Siddharthnagar districts.

Promotion of Education:

Under this pillar, the Bank creates conducive learning environments in communities that have no access to education. In Sitapur, Lakhimpur, Kushinagar, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Agra, Mathura, Lalitpur, and Bulandshahar, the Bank has created smart classrooms in over 200 government schools, thus making the classes digitally-savvy, more vibrant and student-friendly. So far under this pillar, Parivartan has reached 80,790 schools and over 77 lakh students in the state.

Skill Training & Livelihood Enhancement :

Under this pillar, the Bank upskills individuals to enable sustainable income generation. The Bank has so far turned over 95,000 women into entrepreneurs through various initiatives. Further, in Pratapgarh and Ayodhya, the Bank conducts a three-tier livelihood programme through poultry, goat and fish rearing – all at once. The economically weaker sections in the area are encouraged and provided the means to house goats, hens and fish on their land. There are 1,787 direct women micro-entrepreneurs in the state earning livelihood through livestock, tailoring, petty shop, and food processing.

Healthcare & Hygiene :

Under this pillar, Parivartan improves sanitation facilities and promotes safe hygiene across communities. In Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Gorakhpur, Shravasti, Chandauli, Ayodhya, Mathura, and Lalitpur, the Bank has made significant progress in providing sanitation facilities to all, by setting up of over 2,590 hygienic sanitation units. Further, the Bank implemented the Jal Jeewan Mission scheme for rural communities that ensured safe drinking water to 40,000 people through household tap connections across 40 villages.

Financial Literacy & Inclusion :

Under this pillar, Parivartan enables communities to enter the banking fold. Financial literacy workshops are conducted in the state to teach rural folks about savings and investments. So far, over 1.40 lakh financial literacy camps have been conducted in the state, thus impacting 9.70 lakh people. HDFC Bank was among the top CSR spenders in the country for the financial year ended March 2023. As on 31st March, 2023, the Bank spent Rs 820.89 crore on CSR initiatives across the country.
