TIL Desk/World/Beijing/ An embarrassed China has expunged its India’s envoy’s suggestion that Beijing could think about renaming the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor to allay New Delhi’s “sovereignty” concerns as the corridor passes through Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir. The suggestion made by envoy Luo Zhaohui has been removed from the official version of his speech published on Chinese embassy’s website.
With Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif heading to Beijing next week to attend the high-profile Belt and Road Forum (BRF), it would had left Beijing fairly red in the face to have been seen to be tweaking with the CPEC’s name the prized and prestigious project to be showcased at the BRF.
That too on behalf of a country — India — that has till now snubbed the Belt and Road Initiative. Speaking at the United Service Institution in New Delhi last week, Ambassador Luo had said referring to India’s concerns that CPEC violated its sovereignty as it passes through Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir that China could think about renaming it.
