TIL Desk/World/Beijing/ Personnel of the two million-strong Chinese military would get a ‘bumper’ 40 per cent pay hike from this year as part of the efforts by the ruling Communist Party led by President Xi Jinping to transform the “bloated” People’s Liberation Army into a “more modern, nimble fighting force”.
An official announcement on the pay increase for the world’s largest military is expected soon, Hong Kong-based news paper reported on Saturday, quoting unnamed military officials. The “bumper” 40 per cent increase followed a number of sweeping reforms intended to transform the “bloated People’s Liberation Army, into a more modern, nimble fighting force”, the report said.
Starting this year, China has revised its National Defence Law, expanding the power of the Central Military Commission headed by Xi. CMC is the overall high command of the Chinese military. The new law empowers the CMC to mobilise military and civilian resources in defence of national interests, both at home and abroad.
